So, I saved $100+ ($200-$100GiftCard+Tax+Games!), and tons of future time. 10月17日 Maintenance of my Ford Focus ZX3 Zetec 2000I have done some maintenance on my poor 2000 Focus ZX3 (Zetec, manual). All the fluids different with those recommended in the owner's book work fine so far. This blog is for my own record, others' information, and to show off of course. 1) The battery was dead when I came back after the summer break. We tried to jump start it, but failed to charge anything into it. It seems to be dead, so I had to replace it. I bought a new one from Walmart, then installed it. I can start the car now. 2) Open the hood, some fluid levels were low: power steering, coolant, and engine oil. 3) According to my research, it is not recommended to do a flush on power steering system. So I just used a tool to suck the old fluid out and replace with new. I used Castrol (Mercon V) instead of Motorcraft in the owner's book. 4) Because I did not want to take the trouble to get the Motorcraft coolant from dealer and I did not want to take the risk of mixing different coolants, I had to flush the cooling system totally. I used Prestone 50/50. It's not hard, I just followed the tutorials on internet. And jacking up the car is not necessary for this. 5) Engine Oil, I used Mobile 1 synthetic. And for oil filter I used Motorcraft. 6) The door jamb where the tire pressure should be written is on passenger's side rather than driver's side. And it should be 32psi. I made them 32psi, but they still look flat. 7) The battery cable was very rusty, white shit in the positive and blue shit in the negative. One night I found that the interior panel light was so dim once I turned on the car light. But it was fine when the car light was off. I thought it was due to the bad connection because of those rusty wires. So I decided to clean them. I poured dry baking soda and water on the rusty area, brushed with tooth brush, and rinse with water. After it became dry again (I waited one day for safe), I used some anti-rust oil on the wire exposed outside. Though it turned out the dim panel light was because I accidentally adjusted the light level, the terminal looks shiny now. |
